SciWorld 21 is coming!

Hello,

So it is the time of year when you see information about another SciWorld; our twenty-first to be exact. As noted previously on Discord, we are happy to have co-hosts this year that hopefully will be able to add their own flair to SciWorld and make this year even more enjoyable than usual for you all. This year SciWorld will be hosted by RPG Writing and Star Army, with Amanda Rose and Wes, respectively, leading the charge as this year’s co-chairs.

When will this year’s event be?
June 24th 2023 at 10 AM Eastern/7 AM Pacific/2 PM UTC ( https://dateful.com/time-zone-converter?t=2pm&tz2=Coordinated-Universal-Time-UTC for help converting time )

What will be happening this year?
There will be a mix of voice presentations, text panels, and hopefully trivia this year. If you are interested in hosting a panel, please reach out to one of the co-chairs or post interest in #panel-signups in Discord.

Where will this year’s SciWorld be?
As with the last couple of events, in the interest of making things simple, all SciWorld’s will be hosted on the unified Discord. Here is an invite link: https://discord.gg/EGBwV54

How can I participate/help out?
We are always looking for people to host panels, advertise, spread the word, and be good community members by following the rules and contributing ideas and conversations before, after, and during SciWorld.

As always, if you have questions or need more information, feel free to join the Discord server at the link listed above, and someone from this year’s host organizations or SimmingHub will gladly help you. Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you at SciWorld 21 on June 24th.

Applications Update!

Good evening,

After much consideration by the Selection Committee we have decided that applications will be opened year round for SciWorld and FallFest hosts to make selection and application easier for all involved. These events are about working together and growing our combined knowledge and sphere of people we know in simming so putting any offering of help behind an application timeline isn’t in the best interest of anyone involved. We will also be dropping a formal application. Instead we ask that interested parties explain in their email why they believe they can help, what contributions they can make and how they would improve the process for hosting the event moving forward. We also ask that the person hosting on behalf of their organization reach out that way there is less hands in the jar. Direct communication makes life easier and means there is less email shuffling. Once a host is selected we will notify the contact person as soon as we have reached a decision. Please remember that feedback is the only way to make things better and how we improve so if you have feedback about the application process, how the con’s are run or something about the Discord please share your comments.

E-Mail to apply to host SciWorld or FallFest: conhostapps@tnuproject.org

As a reminder we do intend to run SciWorld between May, June and July. FallFest tentative plans is some time in September, October or November.

FallFest 2022

Hello,

I am happy to announce that we have selected a host for this years FallFest. Theta Fleet after their great handling of SciWorld has volunteered to assist with FallFest! We are honored they have agreed to help and hope that people are as interested to se what this fall brings as we move closer to the event. The timing for this year will be adjusted a little bit to help free people’s time up for the holidays and so that schedules for organizers are workable for the hosting of FallFest. The date for this year’s FallFest is October 22nd 2022; a Saturday in keeping with tradition for these events. More information about panels, how to help out and the schedule for the event will be posted on Discord as we get closer to the date!

A FallFest Time of Year!

It is that time of year again… to select a host for FallFest or the Simming Fall Festival that is! If you’re interested in hosting & chairing one of the role playing world’s most coveted community events please submit an application by September 4th. FallFest has been held every year since the first festival back in 2011 started by OngoingWorlds.

For those who may be new to these events, FallFest is a one-day online convention held annually in Discord chat rooms for anything and everything simming and online role playing. We remember our past and look towards the future. It generally runs for a few hours and includes provacative discussions, trivia games, and live role plays as well as the recent addition of voice based presentations for all to enjoy. Originally intended to be a mini-SciWorld more friendly to European time zones, FallFest has since grown into much more!

We need a host & chair to make it all happen!

The host is a club, fleet or individual sim that partners with SimmingHub to make FallFest happen. The chair is an individual from the host organization who serves as the point person to coordinate the scheduling, advertising for, and logistics of FallFest. More specifically, the host and chair will work with the SimmingHub Organizing Committee to:

• Select a date and time for festival (a Saturday sometime within October to December)
• Design a unique festival logo.
• Recruit approximately 8-12 volunteers to run individual one-hour or half hour long events depending on the preference of the host and presenters.
• Work with those volunteers to create unique and engaging events (discussions, sims, and trivia games) that represent and support the interests of the broader community.
• Assist SimmingHub Moderators in maintaining and organizing the Discord Chat Rooms.
• Promote and advertise the festival.
• Host opening and closing ceremonies on the day of the festival.
• Attend all FallFest events (usually two at the same time) to ensure that they run smoothly. The host can also appoint people to help them with this if they have life obligations that cause them to have to set away.
• Be ready to improvise when things don’t go as planned.
• Post-festival, provide a list of lessons learned and feedback from the community for SimmingHub to improve on later festivals.

The host should be a strong, robust group willing to provide the chair with all of the required volunteers and resources (SimmingHub does assist with this process however we have limited technical and administrative staff to assist with coordinating the festivities). Members of the host club/sim must be ready to attend the festival to help make it a success. In short, the host must fully back the chair. The chair must be highly organized, self-motivated, and possess superior attention to detail. More importantly, he or she should be patient with others and willing to compromise when necessary. It takes a special person to run FallFest–it’s a HUGE job!

Application

Applications will be reviewed by the SimmingHub Organizing Committee in Mid-September following the above criteria. Applicants should highlight their past experiences, capabilities and the traits that would make an exemplary candidate to host the festival. The host & chair may be selected before the review period ends based on community input. Unsuccessful applicants will not be revealed to the public. A member of the Organizing Committee will notify applicants of the selection before the official announcement. Additional information may be requested from applicants before a decision is reached. The application window will close on September 4th 2021 at 11:59pm Pacific Time. All applications should be emailed to conhostapps (at) tnuproject (d0t) org. If you do not receive a receipt confirmation email within 24 hours, please resubmit.

Requested information:

• Host group’s name
• Host URL
• Year Host was founded
• Chair (person)
• Chair’s e-mail address
• Year Chair began simming
• Why should this host & chair be selected? (≤ 250 words)

FallFest is a special time for everyone, but especially for the host & chair. For a few short hours, the entire simming and online role playing community will circle around you–It is one of the biggest events in simming. Those memories will last a lifetime.Best of luck to all applicants! For everyone else, see you at FallFest XII!

SciWorld is Coming!

Greetings and salutations everyone,

In April we had completed selection of the host for SciWorld this year and after giving the host some time to prepare we are happy to announce that Theta Fleet will be hosting this year’s SciWorld. Theta Fleet is a well-known organization in the simming community and so we are happy for their willingness to help us with this year’s event. Kathryn Burke the TFCO has graciously taken on the role of chair for the event and has already been actively working on planning the coming SciWorld for everyone to enjoy.

It has been decided that this year’s 22nd SciWorld Online Convention will be held on June 11th 2022 starting at 11 AM Eastern Time (-4 UTC) and with closing ceremonies at 6 PM Eastern Time. This is a lovely chance for simmers and role players of all types to get together, chat, share ideas, play fun trivia games and experience the larger community that role playing has to offer in hopes of building new bonds, furthering our own knowledge and sharing our love for role playing together without regard to affiliation, position or rank.

Another interesting piece of information; as has been discussed previously there is an interest in voice panels in addition to our normal text based rooms. Theta Fleet and the Organizing Committee have decided that, for those with an interest; starting this year we will begin to hold voice panels. This is a grand development and I only hope that this will be one of the many improvements we can make to the community’s conferences/conventions based on community feedback and participation in helping to make our hobby continue to flourish for many years to come. If you would like to hold a text or voice panel, presentation or trivia game please reach out to Kathryn Burke on Discord at NinjaDuck#8880 or by reaching out to her via email kathryn (dot) burke (at) thetafleet (dot) net. (E-Mail has been parsed and converted into words to prevent spam and mail fetching programs from catching it.). We hope to see you at this years SciWorld! I will provide any further updates and a tentative schedule as we get closer to June 11th. Feel free to join our Discord server prior to the start of the conference to chat, prepare or if you have any questions at https://discord.gg/EGBwV54.

We Hope you Enjoyed FallFest!

Good day,

I hope that you all are enjoying the holiday season of 2021! We are still not out of the woods in this pandemic thing but hopefully in 2022 we can make further progress together. Earlier this fall we all joined together for a wonderful FallFest hosted by 5th Fleet and chaired by their Chief of Operations Nixon. The event was great and people spoke well of things; I am happy that the hand over to SimmingHub has went so well and that people were willing to help run the event even though someone else was handling behind the scenes. I am honored to be a part of this moving forward and I want to thank 5th Fleet for helping this year making the event a success. This all could not have been done without their direct oversight of the set-up, planning and running of the event. I hope that we all as a community are able to keep all of this going over the years to make future FallFests and this next year’s SciWorld as successful as those prior.

The SimmingHub Organizing Committee is honored to work with Ongoing Worlds’ Board of Trustees following this FallFest to award the Ongoing Worlds Community Honor to Nixon for his management of this year’s FallFest. Without his great work, support and planning FallFest this November would not have happened; thank you very much for your efforts, Nixon. It means a lot to the simming community and to me on a personal level as my team and I work to keep the mission of play-by-post role-playing alive into the future, making it fun and accessible for everyone. You were really a great help this fall.

I hope that everyone has a safe new year and that you all enjoy the upcoming Babel and Khitomer Conventions in January and February. I’ll reach out soon with planning details about this summers SciWorld later in 2022.

Be safe and be well,

Josh Hina (Atsumari)
