I come to you today with information about our host for FallFest this year. After deliberations and discussion with those interested, we have asked 5th Fleet (5thfleet.net) to host this years FallFest. They have accepted and appointed Nixon; their Operations Chief as the Chair for this year’s event. It has been scheduled to take place on November 13th 2021. SimmingHub and 5th Fleet have also discussed the potential fo doing voice panels for those who are interested. We are hopeful that this year will continue the success of previous events and welcome your feedback. As always please reach out to the host and chair if you would like to host a panel, help out in any way or if you have any questions. Last but not least mark your calendars for November 13th. We hope to see you at FallFest XI!
It is that time of year again… for what you ask… FallFest or the Simming Fall Festival! With us entering the season of FallFest we need to select a host. It is the first time for applicant selections through SimmingHub but we are trying to keep things like they were in the past. If you’re interested in hosting & chairing the role playing world’s premier one-day community event, submit an application by September 4th. FallFest has been held every year since our first festival back in 2011 started by OngoingWorlds.
For those who may be new to these events, FallFest is a one-day online convention held annually in Discord chat rooms for anything and everything simming and online role playing. We remember our past and look towards the future. It generally runs for a few hours and includes provacative discussions, trivia games, and live role plays. Originally intended to be a mini-SciWorld more friendly to European time zones, FallFest has since grown into much more!
We need a host & chair to make it all happen!
The host is a club or fleet that partners with SimmingHub to make FallFest happen. The chair is an individual from the host organization who serves as the point person to coordinate the schedule, advertising, and logistics. More specifically, the host and chair will work with the SimmingHub Organizing Committee to:
• Select a date and time for festival (a Saturday sometime within October to December) • Design a unique festival logo. Last year’s logo is above. • Recruit approximately 8-12 volunteers to run individual one-hour events. • Work with those volunteers to create unique and engaging events (discussions, sims, and trivia games) that represent and support the interests of the broader community. • Assist SimmingHub Moderators in maintaining and organizing the Discord Chat Rooms. • Promote and advertise the festival. • Host opening and closing ceremonies on the day of the festival. • Attend all FallFest events (usually two at the same time) to ensure that they run smoothly. The host can also appoint people to help them with this if they have life obligations that cause themt o have to set away. • Be ready to improvise when things don’t go as planned. • Post-festival, provide a list of lessons learned and feedback from the community for SimmingHub to improve on later festivals.
The host should be a strong, robust club willing to provide the chair with all of the required volunteers and resources. Members of the host club/sim must be ready to attend the festival to help make it a success. In short, the host must fully back the chair.
The chair must be highly organized, self-motivated, and possess superior attention to detail. More importantly, he or she should be patient with others and willing to compromise when necessary. It takes a special person to run FallFest–it’s a HUGE job!
Applications will be reviewed by the SimmingHub Organizing Committee on Mid-September following the above criteria. Applicants should highlight their past experiences, capabilities and the traits that would make an exemplary candidate to host the festival. The host & chair may be selected before the review period based on community input. Unsuccessful applicants will not be revealed to the public. A member of the Organizing Committee will notify all applicants of the selection before the official announcement. Additional information may be requested from applicants before a decision is reached.
The application window will close on September 4th 2021 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (Note this change from past years; SimmingHub Administrative staff follow US Pacific Coast Time). All applications should be emailed to ffhostapp (at) tnuproject (d0t) org. If you do not receive a receipt confirmation email within 24 hours, please resubmit.
• Host name (club) • Host URL • Year Host was founded • Chair (person) • Chair’s e-mail address • Year Chair began simming • Why should this host & chair be selected? (≤ 250 words)
FallFest is a special time for everyone, but especially for the host & chair. For a few short hours, the entire simming and online role playing community will circle around you–It is one of the biggest events in simming. Those memories will last a lifetime.
Best of luck to all applicants! And for everyone else, see you at FallFest XI!
SimmingHub and its parent charity The New Universes Project now accept donations through AmazonSmile. More information is below in a message from our Operations Administrator. If you have questions please contact the TNU Project’s Administrative Office.
TNU’s charitable foundation now exists on AmazonSmile. This means that you can buy things on Amazon and have part of your purchase donated to the charity. All you have to do is sign up at smile.amazon.com and select our organization then shop through smile.amazon.com as you normally would. Amazon will handle the donations and backend.
You may ask why this is being posted here; domains and server overhead cost money. The conventions that are ran are entirely volunteer based and TNU covers the cost of domains, hosting and various administrative costs that come up through the development of events; by helping you assist us in covering the costs associated with running these operations so that they can continue on into the future well beyond what any specific volunteer or staff member alone could do on their own.
A SciWorld for the ages! Where do I even begin? With some of the most diverse topics & panels I’ve ever seen, great ideas & comments from the audience, and a trivia event that felt more like a shark feeding frenzy, this SciWorld had it all. I haven’t even mentioned the hilarious opening ceremony video yet; thank you Charles and the team for that. If you missed SciWorld, we look forwarding to seeing you at FallFest, which will happen sometime later this year. Both events will be held in this discord server moving forward.
Now that TNU Project‘s SimmingHub has officially assumed the management & administration of SciWorld & FallFest with the completion of our first convention, I would like to personally thank Ongoing Worlds and Charles Star for sponsoring the last three SciWorlds and all 10 FallFests. Your service to the community is much appreciated and we hope to live up to the ideals you championed. On behalf of the Ongoing Worlds Board of Advisors and the SimmingHub Organizing Committee it is also an honor of mine to bestow some awards to members of the community, without whom this event would not have been possible.
Aurther Winters is awarded the OWCH
Aurther Winters of Independence Fleet is hereby awarded the Ongoing Worlds Community Honor (OWCH) for service as chair of the 2021 SciWorld Online Convention. This year’s SciWorld was a complete success in all facets: attendance, content, and energy. He put together a top-notch schedule and ensured a smooth second-to-none festival from start to finish. On behalf of the Ongoing Worlds Board of Advisors, SimmingHub Organizing Committee and role players across the net, thank you, Aurther, for a job well done!
Marie T is also awarded the OWCH
Marie T is also awarded the Ongoing Worlds Community Honor (OWCH) for service in support of the 2021 SciWorld Online Convention. Anyone who attended knows that Marie played an integral role in making SciWorld XIX the unique success that it was. Her creative drive and organizational skills were invaluable. We are happy to announce a date for SciWorld 2021. It has been scheduled for Saturday, June 12th 2021 at 11:30 AM Eastern. It will be occurring on Discord as is common for events now. It is hosted by Pegasus Fleet and Independence Fleet this year. Panel sign ups are being handled on Discord this year as a trial to see if this works for future events. A dedicated page with more information on scheduling and detailed time breakdowns for other regions around the world will be made available soon. We hope to see you there this year. Stay tuned for further updates from us as we publish the page for this event coming in a little over a month and a half.
